Exhibition Canaletto and Venice at Palazzo Ducale
Exhibition Canaletto and Venice at Palazzo Ducale: Until June 9th at the Palazzo Ducale the exhibition with the masterpieces by Canaletto and his contemporaries. In the rooms of the Doge’s apartments, you’ll see the views of Venice, the famous landscapes portrayed with photographic precision that made Canaletto the famous painter he then became.
Canaletto started the art movement of the Vedutism, and was successful all over Europe. He is one of the most famous painters of the 18th century. His works are on display in the most important museums of the world and the exhibition at Palazzo Ducale gives you the occasion to admire them, finally together in the same rooms. In Canaletto’s paintings you’ll discover how Venice was like in the 18th century, with the row- and sail-boats, the countless everyday activities, and all suffused in that unmistakable light that you still can find in Venice.
Alongside the paintings by Canaletto the exhibition also hosts masterpieces by his contemporaries, such as Rosalba Carriera’s portraits of Venetian and European aristocrats, Pietro Longhi’s wonderful scenes of everyday life, Luca Carlevarjs’ landscapes, and some paintings whose shapes and colors already look neoclassic, by Giambattista Tiepolo and Antonio Canova.
Palazzo Ducale is just ten minutes away from Locanda Fiorita.
